Odyssey of the Mind Competition:

"We are very excited to be sending 2 teams to the Odyssey of the Minds state tournament this Saturday March 22 at CVU high school. We have one Division 1 team made of 6 students in grades 3-5. This team solved the "Stackable Structures" problem in which they created a representation of Earth with balsa structures, then will test how much weight they can hold stacked together . The second is a Division 2 team consisting of five 7 students in 7 & 8th grade. Their problem is "The not so Haunted House". They had to create an original skit and build a haunted house with 4 special effects with a surprise ending. These teams have worked very hard over the last 6 months to be able to compete on Saturday. We wish them all good luck and congratulate them on a great accomplishment. "

Safe Routes to Schools:
SATEC had a great first Safe Routes to Schools Meeting on Monday.  The focus of our work included creating a travel plan so that more students can safely walk and bike to school.  There are many benefits of having students walk and bike to school.  Our committee discussed our vision for the program, how to encourage students to walk or bike to school, as well as education and communication.  Our next steps involve reviewing the possible adjustment of dismissal times to provide incentives for students who walk or bike to school and creating a travel plan to promote safe student walking or biking to school.
We need your help.  We are asking parents to complete an online survey to help us gather your thoughts about children walking and biking to school.  The survey should only take about 5-10 minutes to complete.  The link can be found below:
http://www.saferoutesdata.org/surveyformparent.cfm?key=557941
In addition, if you are interested in serving on our committee please contact Angela Stebbins (astebbins@fcsuvt.org) or Derek Madden (dmadden@fcsuvt.org)
