NOTICE: The Maple Run Unified School Board seeks 3 parents, 3 students, 3 community members and 3 staff to participate on the School Resource Officer (SRO) Study Committee. This committee is charged with developing a well-supported, fact-based recommendation regarding the SRO position in the Maple Run Unified School District. The committee is expected to examine the SRO role in ways that may accommodate, as much as possible, the concerns of all parties with a goal of a consensus recommendation being the objective. The following questions will be answered by the Study Committee:

• What do we want the roles/responsibilities or our SROs to be?

• What roles/responsibilities are they performing now?

• Are these roles/responsibilities being met as we would like them to be?

• Who else could fulfill these and/or how else could these roles/responsibilities be met?

• What is the recommendation as to how the role/responsibilities deemed necessary are fulfilled?

Interested parties should download and complete the application found here: https://5il.co/msp3 and return it to Brenda Comstock bcomstock@maplerun.org no later than December 10, 2020.

Message from Principal Stebbins

Greetings SATEC families,

I am writing to let you know we learned on 11/25 that SATEC had another member of our school test positive for COVID. The individual has been out of school for a week and has taken the right steps and will remain in quarantine. Based on this, there is no school based contact tracing required since the individual has been isolated and not been in school.

Please stay safe.

Sincerely,

Angela Stebbins

Operation Happiness Food Drive Competition

November 16th-December 11th

Operation Happiness is a community initiative run by dedicated volunteers that relies heavily on the generosity and support of our community. With over 300 volunteers joining together each year, Operation Happiness is able to provide baskets of food during the hol
idays to over 1,100 families throughout Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. (fgiunitedway.org)

Every holiday season, SATEC families give back to the community in various ways. This year, we will once again be hosting a food drive to support Operation Happiness. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, our collection efforts will look a little different this year.

In the past, we hosted friendly competitions between grade levels. This year, we’re coming together as a school, with a goal of 1000 total food items!

In 2017, we donated a total of 950 items.

In 2018, we donated a total of 1300 items.

In 2019, we donated a total of 650 items.

Can we reach 1000 in 2020? Let’s do it!

If you can spare any non-perishable food items, please send them in with your child. There will be a designated area in each grade’s community to leave items.  Thank you for your contribution to our food drive!

**A graph in the main hallway will track our progress. Pictures will be posted via Facebook and our school announcements for parents to follow. **

School-based winter sports programs may initiate coach-led practice sessions (e.g., skills and drills work) and intrasquad scrimmages (within a school program) no earlier than November 30, 2020.

Students traveling out-of-state over the Thanksgiving holiday, or at any other point in time, must follow ACCD and Department of Health guidance around quarantine before returning to school; the same quarantine requirements also apply to participating in any school-based activity, including sports. Out-of-state travel to participate in any recreational sports activity currently requires a mandatory quarantine upon return.

If the sport permits, school-sponsored winter sports programs may initiate interscholastic games, meets and competitions among Vermont schools no earlier than January 11, 2021, as long as the school is operating under Step III of the Agency of Education’s Strong and Healthy Start guidance. Again, students traveling out-of-state during the holidays must follow ACCD and Health Department guidance around quarantine before returning to school or participating in school-based or recreational sports. Games and meets may only occur between or involve Vermont-based teams and interstate teams where the school fully adheres to the AOE Strong and Healthy Start guidance. Teams may hold team practice sessions, inter-squad scrimmages and interscholastic competitions. Facial coverings are required to be worn by all players, coaches, officials, staff and spectators at all times, including during active play. Teams must implement measures to ensure six feet of physical distance is maintained between players not actively involved in game play. Indoor sports teams engaged in interscholastic competition in sports that involve close proximity or moderate contact are limited to no more than two games in any seven-day period and allow a minimum of at least three days between competitions.

Indoor Spectator Events = No Spectators

Consistent with the Agency of Education’s Strong and Healthy Start guidance, and to limit unnecessary exposure, only “key personnel” – players, coaches, officials, time and scorekeepers.

We will be sending out more information regarding the practice schedule and tentative game schedule soon. Be sure to sign up your child to get all the up to date information.
