SATEC FARM TO SCHOOL UPDATE:
SATEC was awarded a grant from the VT Department of Agriculture to help get
a Farm to School Program started. Farm To School is a program that
connects the 3 Cs; the cafeteria, the classroom and the community.
We have begun work on our action plan, creating goals for each area of the
3 Cs. One of our goals is to install garden beds. The food harvested will be
used to stock our share fridge and will be used for taste tests.
With our collaboration with Northwest Technical Center we are
able to make that happen. They will be installing 10 raised garden
beds shortly after vacation. They will be located between B and C wings.
Additionally, the students at the tech center are currently building
grow labs so in the future our students can start seedlings for our gardens.
To plan for a future community event, we will be planting a pumpkin patch.
Also, we will be planting an apple and pear orchard near the playground
once the ground is thawed enough to be worked. Raspberry and
blueberries will also be planted. All the planting of the berries and
trees will be done by the tech center students.
To help with the start and success of our gardens, we need your help.
If you are able to donate any of the following items, we would greatly appreciate it.
Seeds: carrots, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, pumpkin pie, kale, watermelon
Onion sets, potatoes and sweet potatoes.
Vegetable plants: cucumbers, peppers, tomato, broccoli, brussel sprouts
Clean pint containers or larger (example large yogurt, cottage cheese,
sour cream containers)
Seedling trays (standard size 10x20), seeding mix, potting soil,
peat moss, vermiculite and compost
All donations can be dropped off to the back office. If you have any
questions contact Tammy Deso 752-2700 or tdeso@maplerun.org.
Our next Farm to School Meeting will be May 14th at 4:00 in
the library please join us. We are very excited as this new adventure
begins.--

SATEC Allergy reminder
Several of our students have medically documented severe or life-threatening allergies.
To maintain a safe learning environment for these students, Allergen-Aware classrooms
and Allergen-Aware tables in the cafeteria are in place. If your student’s lunch/snack
contains allergens (nuts, shellfish), please remind them not to sit at a table designated
as Allergy-Aware, if they are in an Allergen-Aware classroom not to bring the allergen
into the classroom, and to practice good hand-washing after eating an allergen.
Thank you so much for your continued support in keeping our students safe.
