With an increasing number of recent deaths linked to vaping and over 800 youth
and young adults sick with lung illness, Maple Run Unified School District wants to get facts and warning signs out to families. MRUSD will host its second Parent Information Night for the community related to vaping on Tuesday, October 22nd. Their first Parent Information Night took place in April 2019 and event focused on the basics of vaping, also called e-cigarettes and Juul. The upcoming event will be a deeper dive and include up-to-date information about what we know about the current outbreak. All are invited to join us at the St. Albans Town
Educational Center on Tuesday, October 22 nd for our Parent Information Night, “What’s In That Vape?” Doors will open starting at 6pm where area services and youth engagement providers will be tabling. The presentation and its following question and answer session will begin at 6:30pm.
This community discussion, targeted toward middle and high school parents, will feature a
presentation by and Coordinator of the Franklin Grand Isle Tobacco Prevention Coalition, Amy Brewer and staff from Northwestern Counseling & Support Services. The speakers will provide information about vaping devices beyond the basic information, including a conversation about how youth use these devices as a crossover between nicotine and THC. The presentation will be from 6:30-7:30pm with plenty of time for questions and discussion about vaping and more.
Partners, agencies, and resources from around our region focused on supporting our youth in
health and wellness will also be present starting at 6pm, including RiseVT, the VT Department
of Health, NCSS, and more.
Childcare is available. Refreshments will be served. No RSVP is necessary. For more
information, contact MRUSD Student Assistance Professional, Amanda Giroux at
(802) 752-2709 or agiroux@maplerun.org.
