Greetings SATEC Families,
We are writing to provide families with some information and thoughts as we are nearing the end of the school year.
Remote Learning:
We know how difficult this has been for everyone! It has not been easy for students, families, or staff. We do appreciate all the efforts of our students and parents for supporting their children with remote learning. We are seeing that about 75-80% of our students are still attending class meetings and completing assignments. We are almost to the end of the year, and we know the nice weather has made focusing difficult. Thank you for hanging in there!
Report Cards:
We will be focusing on providing a narrative summary on each report card as an overview in K-2 and in each content area 3rd-8th. Summary information will be provided for what was offered in UA classes. Teachers may include standard scores using evidence from remote learning or using evidence from semester 2 prior to moving to remote learning; otherwise, the standards section will be left blank.
Last Day of School/Move-Up
The last official day of school is Monday, June 15, morning only. June 15th will be for move up/final class meetings. We will be sending links to class meetings with new teachers sometime next week. These meetings will take place the morning of June 15th. During the last full week of school (June 8-12) no new learning will be presented. We will be providing links to virtual field day activities and fun videos for students to watch. While we will be assigning students to their new teachers, please keep in mind that with the COVID-19 restrictions and requirements we may have to adjust teacher assignments throughout the school based on our remote learning plan, in person learning or a hybrid.
Technology/Library Books:
Please return library books to the school. They can be dropped off in the front of the school in the blue bin or dropped off to your teachers. We do need the Chromebooks from our 8th graders returned. We ask families to bring them on June 10th when families pick up 8th grade celebration items. For grades K-7, parents will have the option of keeping the devices at home over the summer. The IT Department will be creating a schedule to have devices dropped off throughout the summer to be serviced and then returned to families. We have added a link to a brief survey to gather who would like to keep them.

Staff Changes for 20-21
Congratulations to Cheryl Duplissa and Lea Menkens who are retiring this year. Andrew Palumbo will be moving on to other educational opportunities and Lindsey Campion will be leaving to take a position in her hometown of Colchester. Amanda Martin, who was on a one year leave of absence, will not be returning to her special educator position next year.
New Hires/Changes:
Diane Bruley will be moving to a Literacy Specialist position.
Casey Lee has been hired as a 1st/2nd grade teacher AN.
Emma Stevens has been hired as a 1st/2nd grade teacher in AN.
Nick Allen has been hired as our new Band Director/Music teacher.
We are still working on hiring for our 1st/2nd grade special education position and our school nurse position.
Next School Year (August 2020):
We are not 100% sure what the expectations for school opening in the fall will be. We have CDC guidelines; however we need to wait to see what the AOE and VT Department of Health have to say about how we can reopen in the fall. We will be working on our plans for in person learning and revising our remote learning plans in June and over the summer. We hope to have a solid and safe plan for reopening.
We will be sending out the end of year wave video on June 15th. It will be on Facebook, Daily Announcements and our website.
We hope all our students and families have a safe and enjoyable summer. We will keep you posted as soon as we know more about the fall and our plans for reopening school. We thank our students again for trying their best during this challenging remote learning time. We also thank our families for their support and understanding. We appreciate you!
Sincerely,

Angela Stebbins and Jason Therrien
