Friday, December 4th-This is a Green Day
Menu for Week of November 30th - December 4th
December 3, 2020
Dear SATEC Families:
On December 3rd we learned about an individual with a presumed positive Coronavirus case at SATEC.
If you are a close contact of the individual you have already received a phone call from the school COVID contact tracing team. Below is additional information about COVID-19 and how to help prevent the spread of the disease.
The most important things you can do:
Make sure your child is wearing a mask.
Make sure your child is washing their hands.
Keep your child home if they are sick.
Call your primary care provider if you or your child has symptoms of COVID-19.
What is COVID-19?
A new coronavirus causes COVID-19, which is an illness that was discovered in 2019. Coronaviruses are a type of virus that are named for the crown-like spikes on their surface. There are many kinds of coronaviruses including some that cause respiratory illnesses, like the common cold. The specific symptoms of COVID-19 include:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
How does COVID-19 spread?
COVID-19 spreads mainly from having close contact with someone who has a COVID-19 infection. The virus is thought to spread by droplets from person to person when they speak, cough, or sneeze. Droplets travel less than 6 feet. When droplets from another person get in your mouth or nose you can inhale into your lungs. This virus can be spread by people without symptoms.
How can parents and guardians help prevent COVID-19 from spreading?
If your child is sick, keep them home.
Make sure members of your household wash their hands often using soap and water for 20 seconds.
Make sure every member of your household covers their coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow, and then washes their hands afterwards.
Wear a mask in public when you cannot stay 6 feet apart from other people.
Answer the phone if the Health Department calls. A contact tracer may be trying to reach you with important information.
We are working with the Health Department to keep our community safe.
We continue to follow the Health Department’s A Strong and Healthy Start: Safety and Health Guidance for Vermont’s Schools.
We cleaned and disinfected the school per the Health Department guidance.
Employees and sick children will not return to work until they are healthy.
Learn more about getting tested in Vermont.
Thank you for understanding that, due to medical privacy laws, we are not able to release the names of the individuals with COVID-19. We will continue to communicate changes and updates with you.
Sincerely,
Angela Stebbins

Operation Happiness Food Drive Competition
November 16th-December 11th
Operation Happiness is a community initiative run by dedicated volunteers that relies heavily on the generosity and support of our community. With over 300 volunteers joining together each year, Operation Happiness is able to provide baskets of food during the holidays to over 1,100 families throughout Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. (https://unitedwaynwvt.org/operation-happiness)
Every holiday season, SATEC families give back to the community in various ways. This year, we will once again be hosting a food drive to support Operation Happiness. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, our collection efforts will look a little different this year.
In the past, we hosted friendly competitions between grade levels. This year, we’re coming together as a school, with a goal of 1000 total food items!
In 2017, we donated a total of 950 items.
In 2018, we donated a total of 1300 items.
In 2019, we donated a total of 650 items.
Can we reach 1000 in 2020? Let’s do it!
If you can spare any non-perishable food items, please send them in with your child. There will be a designated area in each grade’s community to leave items. Thank you for your contribution to our food drive!
**A graph in the main hallway will track our progress. Pictures will be posted via Facebook and our school announcements for parents to follow. **
